In yet another attempt to socially engineer geopolitical public sentiment and behavior, Facebook, Instagram’s parent company have announced they will be removing all posts which support the recently assassinated Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani
Facebook operates under US sanctions laws, “including those related to the US government’s designation of the IRGC and its leadership,” the Facebook spokesman said, according to the report.
It also removes posts that commend the actions of sanctioned parties and individuals and seek to help further their actions, the spokesperson said, adding that Facebook has an appeals process if users feel their posts were removed in error.
The Iranian government has since protested this move from Facebook by calling for legal action against Facebook’s photo-sharing app, Instagram, one of few western social-media platforms not blocked in the country. The Iranian government website has also created a portal for users to submit examples of removed posts, Iranian state media reported.
Regardless of whether we support a particular entity, organization, corporation, Government or an ideology or not is not the point, censoring the opinions of people is dangerous, we are interfering with the global perspective of reality. While Facebook is a private company and they are free to do whatever they want, this type of behavior should not be supported.
Free speech is so very important, it is the building blocks of truth, freedom and prosperity.
